Mike Davis

Associate Creative Director

Mike Davis is a BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated writer, Producer and Director. He works alongside CEO Anthony Geffen to oversee some of Alchemy’s most ambitious projects across VR and digital production.

Mike has been pivotal in pioneering virtual reality storytelling through Alchemy VR, supervising the productions David Attenbrough’s Great Barrier Reef Dive VR for London’s Natural History Museum and Space Descent VR with Tim Peake for the Science Museum.

For television, Mike series directed Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough and Galapagos with Liz Bonnin and acted as supervising producer on David Attenborough Meets President Obama (all for BBC ONE). For giant screens, and through the 3D joint venture with Sky 3D, Colossus Productions, Mike has helped write and produce Galapagos 3D: Nature’s Wonderland, Museum Alive 3D, Amazing Mighty Micro Monsters 3D and Conquest of the Skies 3D.

Mike started his career in 1999 at Framestore, Europe’s leading VFX studio, working on feature films Mission Impossible 2 and The Constant Gardener and landmark and award-winning television productions including Hallmark event series’ Arabian Nights and Jason and the ArgonautsWalking with Dinosaurs and its sequels, Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets and Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real. Mike then made the successful transition to television production at Darlow Smithson, specialising in high-end VFX, Emmy-nominated for his work on Into The Universe with Stephen Hawking and helping to create a unique visual style for series and specials including Seconds from DisasterBlitz: London’s Firestorm and Mermaids: A Body Found. Mike then joined Wide-Eyed Entertainment moving up from VFX producer to fully-fledged producer on animated feature March of the Dinosaurs (ITV1/NGC) before producing and directing BBC and Discovery Co-production Our Secret Universe: The Hidden Life of the Cell / Battlefield Cell which was nominated for an Emmy. Mike helped develop major visitor attraction Dinosaurs in the Wild at Impossible Pictures and directed the series Aliens: The Definitive Guide at Arrow Media (Science Channel/Discovery) before joining Atlantic Productions in 2013 to supervise David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive 3D (which won the prestigious Specialist Factual BAFTA in 2014).

Mike has been guest speaker at several international events, including IBC Show and PURE Life Experiences and regularly sits on panels for VR and 4K discussions.

Mike has also written and produced the play Oliver Reed: Wild Thing that has had successful runs at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the West End’s Ambassador Theatre, off-West End venues and has toured the UK and Ireland.
